🦅 Who We Are
The Tippecanoe County Conservation Club was founded in 1935, during a time when the conservation movement was taking root across America. Right here in Lafayette, a group of dedicated outdoorsmen, civic leaders, and nature lovers saw a need to protect Tippecanoe County’s natural resources and to instill outdoor ethics and responsibility in their community. They built more than a club — they built a legacy of stewardship, education, and fellowship that has lasted for generations.
Though we’re still uncovering the names of our original founders, newspaper clippings and member stories highlight early club values: honor the land, teach the youth, and bring people together through conservation and outdoor sportsmanship.
🌿 A Legacy Through the Decades
1960s–1980s: Education and Expansion. As our membership grew, so did our mission. We introduced archery programs, survival skills, and launched partnerships with organizations like the Boy Scouts and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Our Youth Conservation Days became a signature event, offering kids and families a hands-on experience in ethical hunting, gun safety, and appreciation for wildlife and land. These decades were shaped by members who believed conservation wasn’t just about protecting nature—it was about educating the people who enjoyed it.
1940s–1950s: Foundations & Fish Fries. In our early years, the club became known for its legendary fish fries, drawing hundreds from the region to enjoy food, camaraderie, and community fundraising. These events supported youth programs and helped fund our growing facilities. Regular trap and skeet competitions were hosted at the club, with scores published in local papers, building friendly rivalries and lifelong friendships.
1990s–Today: Tradition Meets Technology. As we entered the modern era, the Tippecanoe County Conservation Club continued to evolve while staying true to its roots. We embraced technology, launched a growing Facebook community, and improved our facilities to meet modern safety standards. Our annual Community Day (Open House), community cleanup events, and monthly fish frey continue to bring together new generations with the same passion for the outdoors as our founders.Today, we stand as a vibrant community hub for conservationists, hunters, archers, families, and gun enthusiasts dedicated to fostering a deep appreciation for nature, learning, and respect. Our club offers a dynamic environment where multiple generations come together to engage in activities like target shooting and gun safety, ensuring that the spirit of responsible outdoor stewardship and skilled marksmanship is passed down through the ages.
